About this course

Paramedicine has been a registered profession since December 2018, and the Paramedicine Board's standards now follow paramedics into private, event, industrial and telehealth roles as well as ambulance services. This course explains those standards and how to meet them wherever you work.

The course begins with professionalism as conduct and accountability, how the Code and capabilities are used to judge conduct, title protection, the register and unregistered practice. It then covers obligations you carry every year: renewal and declarations, events you must report within seven days, and indemnity insurance across employed, private and volunteer roles.

Scope lessons cover accountability for accepting and declining work, the proposed advanced practice endorsements and supervision of students and graduates. CPD and recency are explained with the 2026 proposals for common standards. A section on private practice, advertising and telehealth covers running a private service, lawful advertising and remote clinical advice.

The final sections address respectful workplaces, bullying and sexual harassment, conduct with hospitals, police and other agencies, raising concerns, how notifications about paramedics are managed, responding professionally and rebuilding standing after conditions or undertakings.

What you will learn

  • Know how a panel or tribunal uses the Code and the capabilities to decide what a reasonable paramedic would do
  • Renew on time, answer every declaration truthfully and send seven-day notices when an event occurs
  • Check that each paid or volunteer role you take on has indemnity cover that actually applies
  • Say yes or no to work based on your competence, and avoid implying an advanced practice endorsement that does not exist yet
  • Give students and new graduates the supervision and support the Code expects
  • Plan and record CPD, protect your recency and keep track of the 2026 proposals for common standards
  • Run or work in a private service with sound governance, privacy, advertising and telehealth practice
  • Cooperate with a notification and live with conditions or undertakings in a way that rebuilds trust

The course explains how to check that every role you perform is covered, including private, event and volunteer work that may fall outside your employer's arrangements.

Is it relevant to private paramedic services?

Yes. A section covers running or working in a private service, advertising lawfully and telehealth.

How is it different from the paramedic ethics course?
