Program · for boundary and conduct concerns
Boundary problems rarely start with a single dramatic act. They build up through minor decisions, each of which felt harmless when it was made: a reply to a late message, a gift accepted, a session that ran on after hours. This five-course program helps you see that drift early, understand where the lines sit under the codes, and repair practice if a concern has already been raised.
Why this matters
In 2024/25 boundary violations featured in 1,991 notifications, according to Ahpra's annual reporting (Ahpra annual report 2024/25). They range from over-familiar messaging and dual relationships to sexual misconduct, which is among the most serious matters a Board deals with and can lead to immediate action.
Every code places the responsibility for the boundary on the practitioner, not the patient. That holds even when the patient starts the contact, even in small communities where dual roles are unavoidable, and even online.
How drift develops
Inside the frame
Contact is about the patient's care, at agreed times and places, with clear roles.
A crossing
A brief, one-off step outside the frame that is in the patient's interest, is discussed openly and is recorded.
Warning signs
Extra time, personal disclosure, special treatment, contact outside work, or secrecy from colleagues.
A violation
The relationship meets the practitioner's needs, whether emotional, financial or sexual, and harm becomes likely.

Patients finding personal accounts, late-night questions, friend requests and online reviews.
Small tokens, large gifts, bequests and offers of personal help.

Bullying, harassment and relationships with colleagues or students.

Safeguards
Being honest about education
For less serious boundary matters, targeted learning, honest reflection and practical safeguards can show real change. For sexual misconduct, Boards and tribunals take an especially serious view, and education will be only a small part of any response. If you are facing that kind of allegation, get legal advice immediately.
Using the program
Start with the unprofessional conduct course so you know how the concern may be framed.
Use the boundaries course to identify the point where your situation left the professional frame.
Work through sexual boundaries, chaperones and social media as relevant.
Introduce the safeguards above and keep evidence that you use them.
Practising in a small community?
Dual relationships are sometimes unavoidable in rural and remote areas. The boundaries course explains how to manage them openly: acknowledging the relationship, considering referral, keeping roles separate and recording your decisions.
Professional boundaries courseThis program is educational and is not legal advice.
A crossing is a minor, one-off departure from the professional frame that benefits the patient, is discussed openly and recorded. A violation puts the practitioner's needs ahead of the patient's and risks harm.
Yes. The codes place responsibility for the boundary on the practitioner. Respond professionally, redirect contact to proper channels and record what you did.
Small tokens may be acceptable, but larger gifts, money or bequests raise serious questions. The boundaries course explains how to decide and how to record it.
The chaperones course explains how chaperone conditions work in practice. Add the course on complying with conditions and undertakings for the wider picture.
A$1,185, the total of five courses. There is no discount. A shorter three-course set is A$567.

Psychologists should add the course on boundaries and multiple relationships for psychologists, which deals with the therapeutic frame in detail.
