About this course

Registration makes accountability personal: the standards follow the practitioner, not the service. This course helps Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners meet the Board's registration standards and capabilities, work safely under protocols and standing orders, and keep records that show their authority and reasoning.

The course explains professionalism as personal accountability, how standards are used when concerns arise and how to use the Professional capabilities for a self-audit. It then covers registration obligations through the year: renewal and declarations, events you must report within seven days and indemnity insurance.

Recency, scope changes and CPD evidence are covered in practical detail. A section on practice plans, protocols, delegation and supervision explains credentialing and clinical governance, working under protocols, standing orders and verbal orders, and supervising others. Documentation lessons cover protocol-based and medicines care, corrections and late entries, retention, access requests and leaving a service.

The final sections deal with conduct inside and outside work, reliability and handover, conflicts of interest and secondary work, incidents and a just culture, cooperating with regulators and moving between services and jurisdictions.

What you will learn

  • Explain why registration makes accountability personal and how standards are used as evidence
  • Self-audit your practice against the Professional capabilities
  • Complete renewal declarations fully and give section 130 notices within seven days
  • Know what the Criminal history standard revised in July 2026 changes for you, and check your insurance
  • Apply the recency standard and manage changes in scope correctly
  • Build a CPD portfolio that would survive an audit
  • Act within practice plans, standing orders and phone orders, and hand tasks on only when it is safe
  • Write notes that make your authority and clinical reasoning clear, and fix errors transparently

  • Practitioners working under practice plans, protocols and standing orders

How the course works

  1. After checkout the course is added to My Courses in your account, so you can start straight away on any device with a modern browser.

  2. Move through 7 sections (21 lessons in total) in your own time; lessons open in sequence and the player remembers where you stopped on that device.

  3. Each section ends with key points and prompts for reflection. Your notes can be downloaded as a Word course pack or printed for your portfolio.

  4. Sit the 15-question assessment at the end. Score 80% or more (12 of 15) to pass; answer options are reshuffled if you retake.

  5. Complete the reflective account and feedback to finish. Your certificate of completion shows the estimated learning time (about 2 hours), and you record the time you actually spend in your CPD log.

Questions about this course

What changed in the Criminal history registration standard?

The revised standard took effect on 15 July 2026. For this Board it adds consideration of the impacts of racism and systemic inequity; disclosure duties are unchanged. The course explains what this means at renewal.

Does the course cover standing orders?

Yes. It explains working under protocols, standing orders and telephone or verbal orders, and how to document medicines care so your authority is clear.

Is it useful if I move to another state?

Yes. A lesson covers moving between services and jurisdictions, including differences in medicines authority and what to check before you start.

How is it different from the ethics course for the profession?

This course covers standards, registration obligations, scope, CPD and records; the ethics course covers reasoning through hard decisions.

What evidence do I get when I finish?

You receive a certificate of completion stating the estimated learning time, and you can download a course pack holding your learning record, a revision sheet and your own reflections. Your CPD log should show the time you actually spend.

Does completing the course satisfy a condition or undertaking?

Not automatically. Where a Board has set education as a condition or undertaking, the course usually has to be nominated and accepted first, so check with Ahpra or the Board, and your legal adviser or defence organisation, before you enrol.
