Clinical Handover and Patient Safety
Structured clinical handover as a patient-safety process in the Irish healthcare context
Dental Council · Dentists and dental specialists
CPD for dentists in Ireland is currently an ethical obligation under the Dental Council's Code of Practice rather than a statutory requirement, and the Council's CPD guide (revised December 2019) recommends at least 250 hours every five years, of which at least 100 should be structured. On 7 August 2026 the Government approved the General Scheme of a Bill amending the Dentists Act 1985 to put CPD on a statutory footing, but it has not yet been enacted.
