About this course

Returning after suspension or cancellation is a long process, and what you do while away matters as much as the application itself. This course maps the routes back to practice and shows how to build credible evidence and a safe re-entry.

The course starts with knowing exactly where you stand: suspension, cancellation, disqualification and prohibition, who controls your pathway back and what others can see. It then covers the period away: what you can and cannot do, using the time well, health, finances and insurance, and keeping a record of everything.

Pathways back are explained for suspension, new applications after cancellation and reinstatement through a tribunal, including what happens if the answer is no. Building a credible application covers the personal statement, return-to-practice plan, referees, supervisors and employers, and complete and honest disclosure.

Later sections address recency of practice and how different Boards approach re-entry, supervised practice as a bridge back, finding a supervisor and workplace, disclosure to employers, credentialing bodies, insurers, Medicare and funders, and sustaining your return through the first year.

What you will learn

  • Know exactly which order applies to you and which body controls your return
  • Stay clear of unregistered practice and anything that looks like holding out
  • Keep dated evidence of insight and remediation from the period away
  • Choose the right route back, from the end of a suspension to a tribunal reinstatement order
  • Prepare a personal statement and a return-to-practice plan that answer the suitability question
  • Meet recency requirements and plan a re-entry that includes supervision
  • Tell employers, insurers and funders about your history honestly and consistently

Who this course is for

  • Practitioners who are suspended
  • Practitioners whose registration has been cancelled
  • Practitioners disqualified or subject to a prohibition order

How the course works

  1. Once you enrol, open the course from My Courses whenever it suits you. It runs in your browser on desktop or mobile, with nothing to install.

  2. Read 25 lessons grouped into 7 sections. Each lesson unlocks when you finish the one before, and your progress is kept in your browser between visits.

  3. Pause on the worked scenarios and reflection prompts. Anything you type is kept in your course pack, which you can download in Word format or print to PDF.

  4. Complete the final assessment of 15 scenario-based questions with a pass mark of 80% (12 of 15). Retakes are allowed.

  5. After the reflective account and feedback, the course is marked complete in your account and your certificate of completion becomes available. It states the estimated learning time (about 2 hours); log the time you actually spend.

Questions about this course

Can I work in a health-related role while suspended?

Some non-clinical work may be possible, but you must not practise your profession or hold yourself out as registered. The course explains the risks and where to get advice.

Does my registration return automatically when a suspension ends?

It depends on the decision and any conditions attached. Some suspensions end automatically; others require steps before you can practise. The course explains the differences.

Do I need a tribunal order to return after cancellation?

In some cases a reinstatement order from a tribunal is required before a Board can consider a new application. The course explains when.

Will I be supervised when I come back?

Often, yes. Supervised practice is a common bridge back, and the course explains how to make it work.

How should I record this course in my CPD log?

Log the date, the course name and the time you actually spend; the certificate shows only the estimated learning time. Add two or three lines on what you will do differently, and file the certificate next to your reflective account.

Who runs this course?
